- INSTALLING OS/2 WARP VERSION 3 WITH A DOS CONFIG.BAK FILE
- ===============================================================

- You will experience a problem when you start Windows**
- applications if you install OS/2* Warp Version 3 into a
- partition that has:
-
- - DOS
- - Microsoft** Windows**
- - A backup copy of the DOS CONFIG.SYS file named
- CONFIG.BAK and/or AUTOEXEC.BAK
-
- Symptoms include:
-
- - One or more of the following error messages appearing
- during OS/2 installation:
-
- SYS1195 The statement "STACKS" on line 79 of the
- CONFIG.SYS file is not recognized. Line 79
- is ignored. Press ENTER to continue.
-
- SYS3170 A program in this session encountered a
- problem and cannot continue.
-
- SYS3176 A program in this session encountered a
- problem and cannot continue.
-
- - A DOS or Windows application that stops before it
- opens while its icon displays diagonal "hash marks."
-
- To correct the problem, use one of the following proce-
- dures.
-
- - If you have not yet installed OS/2 Warp Version 3
- into the DOS partition:
-
- 1. Start the computer using the DOS partition.
- 2. Rename the CONFIG.BAK file to any other name.
- Also, rename the AUTOEXEC.BAK file to any other name.
-
- For example:
-
- RENAME CONFIG.BAK CONFIG$.BAK
- RENAME AUTOEXEC.BAK AUTOEXE$.BAK
-
- 3. Insert the OS/2 Warp Version 3 Installation
- Diskette into drive A.
- 4. Restart the system.
-
- - If you have already installed OS/2 Warp Version 3:
-
- 1. Rename C:\CONFIG.BAK and C:\AUTOEXEC.BAK
- 2. Restart the system.
- 3. Press Alt+F1 when the "{white rectangle} OS/2"
- recovery prompt appears in the upper left
- corner of the screen.
- 4. Select "M" from the recovery panel choices.
- 5. The Selective Install application is displayed.
- The problem is corrected when installation is
- completed.
