  5.    INSTALLING OS/2 WARP VERSION 3 WITH A DOS CONFIG.BAK FILE
  6. ===============================================================

  8.       You will experience a problem when you start Windows**
  9.       applications if you install OS/2* Warp Version 3 into a
  10.       partition that has:
  11.  
  12.       -   DOS
  13.       -   Microsoft** Windows**
  14.       -   A backup copy of the DOS CONFIG.SYS file named
  15.           CONFIG.BAK and/or AUTOEXEC.BAK
  16.  
  17.       Symptoms include:
  18.  
  19.       -   One or more of the following error messages appearing
  20.           during OS/2 installation:
  21.  
  22.           SYS1195   The statement "STACKS" on line 79 of the
  23.                     CONFIG.SYS file is not recognized.  Line 79
  24.                     is ignored.  Press ENTER to continue.
  25.  
  26.           SYS3170   A program in this session encountered a
  27.                     problem and cannot continue.
  28.  
  29.           SYS3176   A program in this session encountered a
  30.                     problem and cannot continue.
  31.  
  32.       -   A DOS or Windows application that stops before it
  33.           opens while its icon displays diagonal "hash marks."
  34.  
  35.       To correct the problem, use one of the following proce-
  36.       dures.
  37.  
  38.       -   If you have not yet installed OS/2 Warp Version 3
  39.           into the DOS partition:
  40.  
  41.           1.  Start the computer using the DOS partition.
  42.           2.  Rename the CONFIG.BAK file to any other name.
  43.               Also, rename the AUTOEXEC.BAK file to any other name.
  44.  
  45.               For example:
  46.  
  47.                 RENAME CONFIG.BAK CONFIG$.BAK
  48.                 RENAME AUTOEXEC.BAK AUTOEXE$.BAK
  49.  
  50.           3.  Insert the OS/2 Warp Version 3 Installation
  51.               Diskette into drive A.
  52.           4.  Restart the system.
  53.  
  54.       -   If you have already installed OS/2 Warp Version 3:
  55.  
  56.           1. Rename C:\CONFIG.BAK and C:\AUTOEXEC.BAK
  57.           2. Restart the system.
  58.           3. Press Alt+F1 when the "{white rectangle} OS/2"
  59.              recovery prompt appears in the upper left
  60.              corner of the screen.
  61.           4. Select "M" from the recovery panel choices.
  62.           5. The Selective Install application is displayed.
  63.              The problem is corrected when installation is
  64.              completed.
